Andreas Aguilar was a member of the West German male gymnastics team that finished a disappointing 12th at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He finished 73th individually, and failed to reach any apparatus final. His greatest moment came in 1989 when he won the World Championship on the rings. In 1987 and 1989 he added two bronze medals at the Europeans, also on the rings. In total, he won six German Championships.
Aguilar was born in Barcelona and grew up in the Philippines. In 1971, he moved to Germany and obtained German citizenship. He was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Aguilar later owned a graphic and design agency at Hannover.
