Diego Lazzarich

Diego Lazzarich was an Italian gymnast and the most celebrated to hail from the Spes Mestre club in Venezia. He went on to represent the Italian national team 68 times over a 12-year period. Internationally Lazzarich won seven Mediterranean Games medals and reached the final in the individual all-round competition at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Domestically, he won 21 Italian titles: individual all-around (1982-83), floor exercises (1978-82, 1984-85), horse vault (1978-80, 1982-84, 1986), horizontal bar (1981), and parallel bars (1978-79, 1982-83). Unfortunately, injuries deprived Lazzarich the possibility of more medals. After his competitive career, he became national coach and later an international judge and referee.
