Valter Molea competed at four Olympics from 1988-2000, with his best result coming at his fourth attempt. On that occasion, the Italian coxless four of Molea, Riccardo Dei Rossi, Lorenzo Carboncini and Carlo Mornati finished just 38 hundredths of second behind the Great Britain gold-medal winning crew, led by Steven Redgrave. Molea won two World Championship gold medals, at Indianapolis in 1994 and Tampere the following year. On both occasions, he was with the coxless fours. After his retirement Molea remained involved in the sport as a co-ordinator of young rowers.
