Ryszard Kubiak was a Polish coxswain. Kubiak originally wanted to be a rower. Standing 170cm tall he was deemed to be too short, with rowers being recruited if they were at least two metres tall. Instead of being put off the sport, Kubiak became possibly the greatest coxswain in Polish rowing and a 14-time national champion.
Kubiak coxed in the eights and pairs at the 1972 München Olympics and the 1976 Montréal Olympics respectively where Poland finished in sixth place both times. At the 1980 Moskva Olympics Kubiak won the bronze medal in the coxed fours. At the same Olympics Kubiak also coxed in the eights, with Poland finishing in ninth place.
