Biography

Basketball player Uwe Blab represented West Germany at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics finishing eighth, and re-unified Germany at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, finishing seventh. Due to his red hair, Blab was nicknamed “Burning Skyscraper”, especially after becoming the first German for many years to join the NBA in North America. Blab played for Dallas Mavericks (1985-89), Golden State Warriors (1989), and San Antonio Spurs (1990). He then moved to Baskets Napoli in Italy (1990-91) and Alba Berlin in Germany (1991-93).

After his active career, Blab moved to Texas with his family and became a software engineer. He lost one of his sons in a brawl at a college in San Marcos, Texas, in January 2010, when the 19-year-old got into it without being involved.
