Frigyes Wiesner started his sporting career at BEAC in 1907, and used his “Magyarized” name Mezei. Between 1910-14, he won four Hungarian championships at 220 and 440 yards, and broke the national record several times at various distances. He was also a member of the Hungarian relay team at the 1908 Olympics. In 1913, he set the world record of 36.4 seconds for the 300 metres. Wiesner graduated from the Budapest Fine Arts College, and after retiring from competitive athletics, worked as a teacher of art in Budapest, and exhibited his paintings at various galleries around Budapest.
