Biography
A five-time Olympian, Veronica Campbell-Brown won eight Olympic medals, with golds in the 200 metres back-to-back in 2004-08 and another victory in the 2004 4x100. In all, Campbell-Brown won 21 medals in World and Olympic competition, with World titles in the 100 in 2007, the 200 in 2011, and the 4x100 in 2015. Indoors she was World Champion over 60 metres in 2010 and 2012.
Campbell-Brown ran in college in the United States at the University of Arkansas, winning the NCAA 200 metre title indoors in 2004. She was married to fellow Jamaican sprinter Omar Brown, a 200 metre Commonwealth Games Champion. Besides World and Olympic titles, she won numerous other titles, including a gold in the 4x100 at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, World Athletics Final championships in the 100 and 200 in 2004, and repeating the 100 victory in 2005, four gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and six golds at the CARIFTA Games.
In 2009, Campbell-Brown was made a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, and stated she would use the position to promote gender equity in sport.
