Biography

Russian tennis player Anatoly Volkov was active during the late 1960s and early 1970s, representing the Soviet Union throughout his career. At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics tennis was played as a demonstration event, with Volkov playing in the singles and doubles, pairing with Vladimir Korotkov in the latter. Two years later he partnered with the Estonian player Toomas Leius for the doubles at the 1970 Summer Universiade, with the duo winning silver after losing to the Japanese pair of Jun Kamiwazumi and Toshiro Sakai. Volkov had his best Grand Slam performances at the French Open; reaching the second round of the singles in 1971 and 1975, and the third round of the doubles in 1971.
