Ice hockey defense Andreas Niederberger participated in four consecutive Winter Olympics, representing West Germany from 1984-88 and re-unified Germany from 1992-94. He also participated in 10 World Championships from 1985-87 and from 1989-95. In total, he won 210 international caps and scored 15 goals.
Niederberger, whose sons Mathias and Leon also became hockey professionals, played nationally with EC Bad Tölz (1980-83), Mannheimer ERC (1983-85), SB DJK Rosenheim (1985-86), Düsseldorfer EG (1986-98), ESC München (1998-99), and Ratinger Ice Aliens (1999-2000). With Düsseldorf he won national titles in 1990-93, and 1996. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame, and later embarked on a coaching career with youth teams, and worked as a hockey expert and commentator with TV Channel SKY.
