Biography

Ice hockey forward Gerd Truntschka, brother of Bernd Truntschka, earned 215 international caps and scored 51 goals with the West German and later the German national team. He competed at four consecutive Olympic Winter Games from 1980 to 1992. He also competed at nine World Championships and was chosen for the all-star team in 1987.

Gerd Truntschka was seen as one of the best ever technical hockey players in Germany, especially in a forward line with his congenial partner Dieter Hegen. In the German Bundesliga he scored 1,420 scorer points, which is the second highest mark ever (through 2019). Truntschka played 858 matches with the clubs EV Landshut (1975-79), Kölner EC (1979-89), Düsseldorfer EG (1989-92), and EHC Hedos München (1992-94). He helped Köln (1984 and 1986–88), Düsseldorf (1990-92), and München (1994) win eight West German Championships in total.

Truntschka was named German Player of the Year five times (1984, 1987-88, 1990-91) and was inducted into the German Ice Hockey Hall of Fame. He later founded a company producing and distributing dietary supplements.
