Sergey Zubov

Sergey Zubov, who is considered one of the best offensive defensemen in NHL history, began his hockey career in 1988 with CSKA Moskva, playing there until 1992. With CSKA Moskva he won one Soviet title in 1989 and two European Champions Cup titles in 1989 and 1990. In 1992 Zubov joined the NHL New York Rangers, playing there until 1995. In 1994 Zubov won the Stanley Cup with them, becoming the first Russian to do so, with teammates Aleksandr Karpovtsev, Sergey Nemchinov and Aleksey Kovalyov. Zubov then played one season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, before joining the Dallas Stars in 1996. Zubov played 12 seasons with the Stars and won a Stanley Cup with them in 1999 and was awarded the Norris Trophy in 2006 as best defenseman in the NHL. In 2009 Zubov left the NHL to play with SKA St. Petersburg. Internationally, besides his Olympic gold, Zubov won a bronze at the 1996 World Cup and also played for Russia at the 1992 World Championships.
