Archery at the 1992 Summer Olympics

Dates 31 July – 4 August 1992
Medal Events 4

Archery had an interesting début at Barcelona as the Olympic Flame was lit by an archer, Antônio Rebello, at the opening ceremony. The 1992 Olympic archery events consisted of men’s and women’s individual and team events, the now-standard program which began in 1988. Archery in 1992 was contested at the Camb Olímpic de Tir amb Arc, or the Olympic Archery Field, a temporary venue in Barcelona, located at the Ronda de Dalt, next to the Pavelló de la Vall d’Hebron, in the Horta-Guinardó district of Barcelona. After the Olympics, the site was remodeled into the Ciutat Esportiva Municipal Vall d’Hebron-Teixonera, consisting of two football pitches, a rugby field and an annex service area.

The formats for the individual event were changed to a ranking round of a Single FITA Round (144 arrows over four distances), with the top 32 archers advancing to a single-elimination tournament. The individual matches in the single-elimination format were contested with 12 arrows over 70 metres. In the team events the individual scores from the ranking round were used for a team ranking round, with the top 16 teams of three archers advancing to a single-elimination tournament. The elimination matches were contested with 27 arrows, 9 per archer, shot over 70 metres.
