Jeong Jae-Heon of Korea led the ranking round and would advance with relative ease to the final. The last two World Champions, Vladimir Yesheyev (EUN) and Simon Fairweather (AUS), moved on to match play, but went out early, Yesheyev losing in round two, and Fairweather in round one. The final matched Jeong against Frenchman Sébastien Flute, the 1992 World Indoor Champion and European Champion earlier in 1992. Flute had already defeated the other two Koreans in the matches and he finished his personal sweep by winning the gold medal over Jeong, 110-107.
The bronze medal match was won by Britain’s Simon Terry, who seemed satisfied with that and then retired. Or so it seemed. Terry returned to the archery fields 13 years later and won an individual bronze and a team gold medal at the 2007 World Cup.
