Taekwondo at the 2012 Summer Olympics

Taekwondo has been on the Olympic Program since the 2000 Olympics, with men and women contesting four classes at each celebration, and there was no change to this program in 2012. The events were held at the ExCeL Arena in the London Docklands area. ExCeL is short for Exhibition Centre London. It was the site of multiple sports at the 2012 Olympics, including all the combative sports (boxing, judo, taekwondo, wrestling), fencing, table tennis, and weightlifting. One change in scoring occurred for the 2012 Olympics. At previous Olympics, penalty points had been deducted from the score of the fighter committing the penalty. In 2012 a penalty resulted in a point being added to the score of the other fighter.

No nation dominated taekwondo as eight different nations won the eight events. Spain and China won three medals each, with seven nations winning two medals, and 21 nations in all winning at least one medal.
