The format had slightly changed since Tokyo, with the elimination of the second phase of qualification. This time, the top four teams would move straight into the medal matches instead of contesting an eight team second round. Unlike the other mixed pairs event, this took place before the individual events.

As reigning World and Olympic Champions, it would be very hard to look beyond China to repeat at Paris. If betting against China, then India, South Korea, and Norway were considered contenders.

Unsurprisingly, China topped the qualifying sheets though their second pair missed out on the medal matches. Teenagers Huang Yuting and Sheng Lihao’s opponents in the final would be the only slightly older pairing from South Korea. China were almost always in control of the gold medal match, although the Korean team did attempt a comeback at the midpoint, but China would eventually win by 16 points to 12. Kazakhstan won a rare shooting medal by beating Germany for the third-place on the podium.
