FormatPlacement determined by best scores on apparatus in individual all-around event.

This event had not been contested as a separate medal event since the 1904 Olympics. At the unofficial World Championships, Leon Štukelj of Yugoslavia shared the gold in 1922 and would win it again in 1926. While he won the individual all-around in Paris, he finished only fourth in this event, which was won by Italian Francesco Martino, narrowly over Czechoslovak Robert Pražak, who also won silvers on the parallel bars and in the individual all-around. Bronze medalist Ladislav Vácha would also won a silver medal in this event in 1928. The first 24 places on the rings were taken by athletes from only four nations – Czechoslovakia, France, Italy, and Yugoslavia.
