Biography

Sharon Monplaisir competed for the United States at three Olympic Games (1984-92) and five World Championships (1985-87, 1990-91). She also won gold medals in team foil at the 1987 and 1991 Pan American Games. Monplaisir attended Hunter College where she was a four-time All-American selection and won the NIWFA (National Intercollegiate Women’s Fencing Association) title in 1983 and 1985. In 1984 she was awarded the Southland Olympian Award for athletic and academic achievement. Monplaisir was inducted into the Hunter College Hall of Fame in 1991. She married modern pentathlon Olympian Michael Gostigian. Monplaisir has worked as a model and a personal trainer.
