Biography

Jens Ole Berthelsen was only 22-years-old when he competed at the 1912 Olympic Games in all three weapons. He returned to the Olympics 12 years later in Paris and again in Amsterdam in 1928. He had his best result individually with the épée in 1928 when he advanced to the semi-finals. Berthelsen, one of the most versatile Danish fencers, was a four-time Danish champion with the foil (1921, 1925, 1926, 1932), won five titles with the épée (1914, 1920, 1929, 1931, 1932), and three with the sabre (1921, 1926, 1927).

Berthelsen was the son of a military officer and graduated in 1919. He was married to Anna Sofie Yde and they had one son.
