Biography

Michel Steininger was a Swiss fencer who won multiple titles in the épée discipline. In 1959 Steininger won silver at the Summer Universiade in Torino to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. At the Roma Games he finished fifth with the Swiss team, in addition to competing in both the individual épée and foil tournaments. Three years later he repeated his result at the Summer Universiade to win another silver ahead of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. In Tokyo he finished seventh in the team event and 17th in the individual competition. Steininger made his third and final appearance at the Olympics at the 1968 Mexico City Games, competing in the team and individual events, finishing 12th and 25th, respectively.
