Biography

Romanian artistic gymnast Marius Tobă finished seventh with the team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. The previous year, the team was also seventh at the World Championships. After the Romanian Revolution in 1989 Tobă emigrated to Germany.

In 1992, Tobă won four German national titles in the floor exercise, parallel bars, horizontal bar, and rings. In 1994, he added another national title in the individual all-around. He then represented his new country, Germany, at the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics. He reached the rings finals on both occasions and placed seventh and sixth respectively. He also helped the team finish seventh in 1996.

In 1996, Tobă also became European Championships runner-up on the rings. His son Andreas Toba was also a gymnast and represented Germany at the three Olympics from 2012-2020.
