The son of two former college gymnasts, Lance Ringnald was only 18-years-old when he made the 1988 US Olympic team. Ringnald won US titles on the vault and high bar in 1990 and defended his high bar title in 1991. He competed at the World Championships for the US in 1989, 1991, and 1993. In 1989 and 1990 Ringnald was US Olympic Committee Male Athlete of the Year. He won five American Cup apparatus gold medals in 1990, 1991, and 1993. He and Kim Zmeskal won gold in mixed pairs all-around at the 1989 Swiss Cup. Ringnald attempted to make the 1992 Olympic team but injuries hampered him and he was an alternate.
After retirement from competitive gymnastics, Ringnald starred in gymnastics show aboard Cruise Ships. He also did motivational speaking on the ships, telling passengers about his gymnastics and Olympic experiences. In 1989 Ringnald earned the New Mexico Governors’ Sports Award.
