Automobile Racing at the 1900 Summer Olympics

Automobile and motorcycling racing are now very popular sports, with multiple permutations, such as Formula 1 in Europe (and lesser variants), NASCAR in the United States, and Indy-style open wheel racing in the United States. However, in 1900 cars and motorcycles were somewhat of a novelty, as motorized transport such as this was only developed in the later 19th century. There were 16 different events contested in automobile and motorcycling racing at the 1900 Paris Exposition. In the Olympic Charter, through the first few years of the 21st century, sports relying on motorized transport were specifically excluded from being allowed on the Olympic Program. That restriction has been stricken from the Charter, but there is little chance any form of automobile or motorcycle racing will be added to the Olympic Program in the near future.
