The US would place 1-2-3 in both freestyle events in 1924, so the victory of the American women in the relay was, barring disqualification, amongst the most foregone conclusions of the Games. The individual 100 metre medalists were joined by Fraze Donnelly, and lived up to their billing as they became the first quartet to break five minutes for this event. The British four finished a clear second, with Sweden a distant third.
