Marshall Wayne won the gold medal on platform, shortly after winning a silver medal in the 1936 springboard. The battle for the other medals was very close, with American Elbert Root earning silver by a margin of less than ½-point over Germans Hermann Stork, the bronze medalist, and Johnny Weiß, who placed fourth.
