The two well established competitions for “Town Planning” and “Architectural Design“ were held again in London. All medals were awarded as well as additional honorable mentions. The exhibits for the two competitions were identical, but were assessed separately for both categories. Therefore, works that were not awarded with a medal cannot be attributed to either category. A total of 55 architects, including one woman, from 14 countries submitted 46 projects.
Adolf Hoch sent in a design for a Ski Jumping Hill to be built on the Kobenzl mountain. It was the second consecutive gold medal for Austria in the event, with Hermann Kutschera winning it in 1936, also for a ski jumping stadium. Silver was won by Hoch’s compatriot, Alfred Rinesch. Bronze medallist Nils Olsson was best known for designing several buildings along the Kungsportsavenyen, the main street of his home town Göteborg.
