Trampolining

After the Fédération Internationale de Trampoline (FIT) managed to get its sport on the Olympic Program for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the governing body became part of the the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), which also governs acrobatic, artistic, and rhythmic gymnastics.

The FIG was founded on 23 July 1881, in Liège, with three founding members: Belgium, France, and the Netherlands. It was originally called the Bureau des Fédérations Européennes de Gymnastique (FEG), and re-named to FIG in 1921. As of 2022, the organization has 156 member federations.

At the Olympics, only an individual event (one for men, and one for women) is contested. Through 2022, China has won the most medals in the discipline, with 14 medals and four golds, while Canada has seven medals and two golds.

Karen Cockburn, of Canada, won a medal at each of the first three Olympics in which the sport was contested, earning two silvers and one bronze medal. Her countrywoman Rosie MacLennan won gold medals in both 2012 and 2016. China’s Dong Dong leads the men’s medal table, with four medals and one gold from 2008-2020.
