Steve Hug competed for Stanford, where he earned 11 All-American honors in gymnastics, winning the NCAA all-around title in 1972-74, and twice winning the parallel bars at the NCAAs. Hug was US Champion in all-around in 1969, 1972, and 1974. He competed for the US at the 1968 and 1972 Olympics, and at the 1974 World Championships. His other international experience included the 1969 World Cup, the 1967 North American Championships, the 1973 Chunichi Cup, and the Riga Invitational in Riga, Latvia and Moskva, Russia in 1972 and 1975, respectively. Hug was inducted into the Stanford University Hall of Fame in 1974. CrossFit founder and CEO Greg Glassman was inspired by Hug when he was a young boy, and has said that CrossFit would not exist without Steve Hug. Hug later became a landscape architect in the Los Angeles area. He was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 1995.
