Luxembourg’s Paul Hammer was a track sprinter and long jumper. Hammer ran in the 100 metres and 200 metres at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics but was eliminated in the heats in both races. With the relay team he finished in sixth place in the final of the 4 × 100 metres. He also competed in the long jump at the Antwerpen Games, finishing in 28th place with a best jump of 5.450 metres. Four years later Hammer was selected as the flag bearer for Luxembourg at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He ran in the 100, 200, and 400 metres where he reached the quarter-finals in the 100 metres. He again competed in the long jump, this time finishing in 23rd place with a jump of 6.240 metres. Hammer’s son Fred followed in his father’s footsteps competing in track and field athletics at the 1952 Helsinki and 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
