Built specifically for the 1968 Olympic aquatics competitions, the indoor Alberca Olímpica Francisco Márquez was the site of the diving events in Ciudad de México, as well as swimming, water polo, and the swimming section of the modern pentathlon. There were four diving events – 3-metre springboard and 10-metre platform for men and women, which remained the standard Olympic diving program through 1996. Klaus Dibiasi won the first of his three consecutive gold medals in men’s platform.
