The 2024 Olympic rowing regatta was held at the National Olympic Nautical Stadium d’Île-de-France, in Vaire-sur-Marnes, 30 km northeast of Paris. The rowing course was an older venue that was renovated between 2016-19 for the Paris Olympics.
The Olympic rowing programme for 2024 was identical to the Tokyo 2020 programme, with seven events for both men and women. There were three sculling events (singles, doubles, quads), three sweep events (pair, four, eights), and lightweight double sculls in both classes. This was the last time that lightweight classes would be contested at the Olympics for the foreseeable future, as they were not scheduled to be on the Olympic Programme for Los Angeles 2028, replaced by three coastal rowing events, one a mixed double sculls coastal rowing.
Rowing had the third largest participation of any sport or discipline in Paris, with 493 contestants, only behind athletics and swimming. Forty-nine (49) nations took part in the women’s events and 52 in the men’s events.
Sixteen (16) nations won rowing medals at Paris 2024, led by the Netherlands and Great Britain, with eight each. Netherlands won the most events, with four gold medals, followed by Great Britain with three, as eight nations won gold medals. The seven men’s gold medals were shared by seven nations. Among the women, Great Britain won the most medals, with five, while Netherlands and Romania won four each, although the Netherlands won the most gold medals in women’s competition, with three.
Four Romanian women won two medals in rowing at Paris – Roxana Anghel, Ancuța Bodnar, Simona Radiș, and Ioana Vrînceanu –, all with one gold and one silver. They all won gold in the eights, while Bodnar and Radiș won silver in the double sculls, and Anghel and Vrînceanu finished second in the pair.
Croatian brothers Martin and Valent Sinković won their third consecutive gold medals, and their fourth Olympic rowing medals. They repeated as pair gold medalists in Paris, after winning gold in the 2016 double sculls and a silver in the 2012 quad sculls.
