The 1991 World Champions were Chen Zihe and Gao Jun. The final came down to them against their Chinese teammates, Deng Yaping and Qiao Hong, who they had surprisingly defeated at the World Championships. Deng/Qiao won in four games. Two days later they would play each other in the final of the singles. Deng and Qiao later won the 1995 World Championships.
