The 1992 judo competition was conducted at the Palau Blaugrana arena, the home for FC Barcelona’s basketball, handball, and roller hockey teams. The biggest change in 1992 was that women’s judo was now a full medal sport. Women had competed in 1988 in a demonstration event, and had competed at the World Championships since 1980. It was overdue for them to have Olympic judo on the program. Both men and women competed in seven weight classes, for 14 judo events overall.
