After winning silver at the Rio 2016 Games and bronze at Tokyo 2020, Great Britain’s Bryony Page, at the age of 33, completed her medal set with gold in Paris.
The 19-year-old Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya of Belarus, who competed as an Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN), had a superb competition to clinch her first Olympic medal, a silver. Canada’s Sophiane Méthot made a remarkable comeback after securing the eighth and final spot in qualifications to finish third in the final.
Since the introduction of trampolining in 2000, Canada has had a woman earn a medal at every Olympic Games, except for Tokyo 2020.
Defending champion Zhu Xueying showed a clean routine but was a little off-centre in her final performance. Her 55.510 in the final was 1.21 points behind what she scored in qualifying, resulting in a fourth-place finish. Her teammate Hu Yicheng fell in the final and, after handing gold to Bryony Page, finished eighth. Consequently, Paris marked the first women’s podium without a Chinese trampolinist since the sport’s introduction in 2000.
