The 2004 gold bronze medalist, Zou Shiming had since become the dominant amateur fighter in the world in this class, winning the World Championship in 2005 and 2007, and the Asian Games in 2006. After winning an easy first round decision he faced France’s Nordine Oubaali and was almost upset. The match was tied 3-3 at the end of four rounds, but Zou won on the tie-breaking score.
