The United States swept the medals, led by Mickey Galitzen who had won silver in this event in 1928. The silver medalist was Dutch Smith, followed by Dick Degener winning bronze. A few days later Smith and Galitzen would reverse positions, with Smith winning gold on the platform. Galitzen finished his Olympic career after 1932 with four medals, and the one gold in this event. Degener would return in 1936 to win the springboard gold medal. American divers would again sweep the springboard medals in 1936, 1948, and 1952.
