LocationOlympiastadion, Reichssportfeld, Berlin
Participants30 from 15 countries

At the 1934 FSFI Women’s World Games Germany’s Käthe Krauss won the 100 and 200 metres over the defending Olympic 100 champion, Poland’s Stanisława Wałasiewicz. Wałasiewicz did win the 60 metres. But in 1935 the women’s world record had been brought down to 11.6 by Helen Stephens of the United States. She equaled that time at the 1935 AAU Meet, and then twice in 1936 ran 11.5, although neither mark was ever ratified as a world record. The three were considered co-favorites at the Olympics, but it was not that close. Stephens won the final easily, running a windy 11.5 and finishing two metres ahead of Wałasiewicz, with Krauss getting the bronze medal.
