The heavy favorite was American Matt Dryke, who was the 1983 World and Pan-American Champion and would win the world title again in 1986. He also held the world record with a 200 possible. He came thru for the gold medal with a 198, Dryke had started his shooting career as a trick shooter, learning to shoot skeet while riding a unicycle.
