The last of all Alpine skiing races held during this Games was the women’s slalom. American Mikaela Shiffrin was the clear favorite. With seven wins in eight World Cup slaloms contested in the ongoing season she had already secured the Crystal Globe for this discipline, for a record ninth time, since 2013. Other winners during this time span had either retired (Frida Hansdotter), or were out due to injury (Katharina Liensberger), and Slovakia’s Petra Vlhová was returning from an injury. Zrinka Ljutić who won the slalom Crystal Globe in 2025 was competing but she was out of form. The only racer who was able to beat Shiffrin this season was Frenchwoman Camille Rast in Kranjska Gora, the reigning World Champion from 2025.

Shiffrin was untouchable, securing the best time in the first run, and leading by more than 8/10ths of a second in front of Germany’s Lena Dürr and Sweden’s Cornelia Öhlund, but they both went out in run two and did not finish. At the end Rast won silver after placing fourth in run one, but she was not close to Shiffrin, finishing behind by 1.50 seconds. Bronze went to Swedish veteran Anna Swenn-Larsson.

Shiffrin set the second-best time in the second run with only teammate Paula Moltzan faster. Shiffrin won her second slalom gold after her victory in 2014 making her the first female Alpine skier to win gold medals over a span of 12 years and only the second female Alpine skier ever to win gold medals in three different Olympics after Italian Deborah Compagnoni.

With 95 starters this event had the most competitors in any female Olympic Alpine skiing event ever, and the 57 participating nations was a new record for female Alpine skiing. Shiffrin gave manufacturer Atomic another gold while Head took silver and bronze.
